Announcing My 2025 Project: 100 Films of 1975
Welp, looks like we're going to need a bigger boat! I announce my big 2025 project in the latest edition of "Amy Wren Says What?"

As you may have seen in last week's newsletter, I had a lot of fun revisiting my "100 Films of 2014" list for its tenth anniversary. But now that was over, what kind of project was next for me? Well, if you were wondering this, I'm happy to announce that I have a project for 2025. In celebration of the 50th anniversary of 1975, I will be watching 100 movies from that year!
And holy cow, what a year of movies it was! You've got all time classics like Barry Lyndon, Nashville, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Dog Day Afternoon, and of course Jaws. There's also Shivers, an early Cronenberg film and films by legendary directors like Orson Welles, Akira Kurosawa, Ingmar Bergman, and François Truffaut. There's two whole Ken Russell films, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, and don't forget the greatest movie ever, The Apple Dumpling Gang. And that's just a small fraction of the list. It's got a wide variety of great stuff from across the world. If you want to see the full list, I've put it up at Letterboxd. I also have a running list ranking the movies as I watch them, if you want to follow along.
So now that I've announced the list, what exactly does it mean that this is "my project"? Well, that's a good question. Obviously I'm going to watch all of the films on the list. And I'm going to write some of them from time to time on the newsletter. Sure, for the little blurbs on the weekly edition of "Amy Wren Watched What?" But also for stand-alone newsletters. I don't have details for this, beyond that it won't just be an end of the year piece, and won't be every newsletter. All I can promise is to just keep your eyes out for future updates.
Whatever the project's form ends up taking, I'm really exciting about digging into this one. I don't know what this year is going to be like, it's far too early to tell. But at least this part is going to be a heck of a lot of fun. And I hope you all come along with for the ride.
What are your favorite movies from 1975? Feel like there are any big omissions from the list? Let me know in the comments!
The full edition of the newsletter comes out most Thursdays. Amy Wren Watched What? is posted every Tuesday.
