Halt and Catch Fire S1E10 Next Week

I announce a scheduling change and make an observation I found interesting about season one of Halt and Catch Fire.

Hi, everybody!

This week has been hectic for me. I've been focused on my daytime career, with prepping for and having job interviews taking up much of my time. Because I want to do a great job with my piece wrapping up season 1 of Halt and Catch Fire, I am going to push it until next week (5/14).

Here's the schedule for the next few weeks:

5/14: Halt and Catch Fire S1:E10 (Title TBD)
5/21: No Halt and Catch Fire, Piece Topic TBA
5/28: Halt and Catch Fire S2:E1-3 (Title TBD)
6/4: Halt and Catch Fire S2:E4-6 (Title TBD)
6/11: Halt and Catch Fire S2:E7-8 (Title TBD)
6/18: Halt and Catch Fire S2:E9-10 (Title TBD)

After that will be another break, then on to season 3! This series will take longer than I had originally thought, depending upon how break down Seasons 3 and 4, which are even denser than S1 and 2. All I can promise is stay tuned.

Before I wrap up, I want to share an observation I enjoy that won't be in the piece next week. Throughout "The 214s" and "Up Helly Aa", the show makes several references to station wagons. The Giant team travels to COMDEX in the Clark's station wagon. Dennis Cummings (David De Vries), the Computerland representative, refers to the Giant as a "sportscar" he will put out to sell station wagons. And of course, Gordon (Scoot McNairy) calls the Giant a station wagon after gutting Cameron's OS. It's not a big theme of the show, but it's there. And it's a fun parallel to what is going on with the Giant, and the reveal of the Macintosh at the end of "Up Helly Aa".

See, 1984 wasn't just the dawn of the GUI. It also was when the station wagon's replacement, the minivan, really took hold. That year Chrysler released the first Dodge Caravans and Plymouth Voyagers. They weren't the first minivans, but they were the first that really caught on. And sure enough, at one point in "1984", we see that the Clarks have traded in their station wagon for a minivan.

I don't know for sure if this was an intentional choice tying back to the story of change that is much more apparent with the computers. But it was something I noticed during my rewatches this time through.

Hope everything is going well for all of you. Thanks as always for your support.
